The Interreg VI-A Austria-Hungary Programme is open for standard project applications in all four priorities, in every specific objective of the programme.
Call objectives
The main priorities and specific objectives for the programme are:
- A green and resilient border region
- Climate change adaptation
- Sustainable water
- Nature protection and biodiversity
- A better-connected border region
- Sustainable transport
- A competent border region
- Education and training infrastructure
- Culture and sustainable tourism
- An integrated border region
- Legal and administrative cooperation
Expected results
Related types of actions to the specifc objectives:
- Climate change adaptation
- Cross-border research as well as data collection and exchange to improve know-how and preparedness towards climate change impacts
- Developing cross-border strategies, management and actionplans addressing climate change impact, risks and natural hazards in the border region
- Implementing actions including small-scale investments in climate change adaptation and mitigation measures
- Awareness raising on climate change adaptation and mitigation, especially on local level
- Sustainable water
- Data collection, monitoring and analysis as well as (interdisciplinary) know-how exchange to improve the knowledge on water quality and ecology, on sustainable water management as well as on flood hazards
- Developing strategies and action plans for a more sustainable water management in the border region
- Implementing actions including small-scale investments promoting the sustainable water management and sustainable use of water resources
- Nature protection and biodiversity
- Data collection and research as well as (interdisciplinary) know how exchange to gain better knowledge about the region’s ecological status and threats
- Developing strategies and action plans to enable a positive development of nature and biodiversity in the cross-border region
- Implementing actions including small-scale investments that contribute to protecting nature or reducing pollution
- Awareness raising activities on the need of nature protection and reducing pollution at local and regional level
- Sustainable transport
- Cross-border data collection and know-how exchange on cross-border traffic patterns and the mobility behaviour of the population in the programme region
- Developing strategies and action plans aiming at a better organisation and linking of different modes of sustainable transport
- Implementing actions including small-scale investments to better connect regional and local public transport and cycling infrastructure and to enhance the sustainability, multimodality and safety of cross-border mobility
- Education and training infrastructure
- Cross-border research and data collection as well as developing strategies to improve coordinated decision making on education and training issues across the border
- Implementing actions in cross-border education and training
- Implementing joint training actions focusing on language- and intercultural aspects as well as labour-market needs
- Culture and sustainable tourism
- Cross-border data collection and know-how exchange in the field of tourism and culture to better understand the cross-border tourism landscape and potential
- Developing cross-border strategies and action plans to allow a better strategic embedment of projects addressing culture and tourism
- Implementing actions including small-scale infrastructure developments for sustainable culture and tourism development in the crossborder region
- Implementing thematic trainings and skill development of stakeholders in the culture and tourism sector
- Legal and administrative cooperation
- Elaborating monitoring and data exchange systems to improve cross-border know how exchange and decision making
- Developing strategic frameworks among public organisations in all relevant fields to address upcoming challenges of the border region
- Implementing joint solutions to improve cross-border governance and reduce cross-border obstacles

Project Partnership
According to the minimum requirements, a partnership must have at least one partner from Austria and one from Hungary. The number of possible project partners is not limited.
other eligibility criteria
Each project must clearly demonstrate the cooperation of the project partners - this is checked by means of the four cooperation criteria, of the four criteria at least three must be fulfilled:
- Joint preparation (mandatory)
- Joint implementation (mandatory)
- Joint financing
- Joint personnel
The program area extends along the Austro-Hungarian border and includes the following 11 NUTS 3 regions: Northern, Central and Southern Burgenland, Vienna, the southern part of the Viennese hinterland, Southern Lower Austria, Graz and Eastern Styria, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Vas and Zala.
Only projects that implement activities in the program area can be funded.
