Mediterranean Coast and Macro-Regional Strategies Week 2024
Registrations are open for the Ninth edition of the Mediterranean Coast and Macro-Regional Strategies Week 2024 "Stronger cooperation for better future" which will be held on-site in Izola and Portorož, Slovenia, from 16 to 20 September 2024.
Traditionally, the event aims to raise awareness of the sea and coast and the need of balancing their economic potential and environmental sustainability. During the years however, it evolved and became recognized as one of the central occasions, when all four EU macro-regional strategies meet and exchange on relevant topics. Such exchange of experiences enables faster development in macro-regional cooperation, generates new ideas and approaches, builds synergies, and ultimately delivers better results and greater added value to macro-regional cooperation.
This year’s topics stretch from reflections on 27+ Cohesion Policy to circular economy, digitalization, smart specialization, skills and constructions at the sea and coast. In addition, attention will be paid to the vision and mission of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021 – 2030. Organizers are promising numerous interesting activities. The event brings together politicians, decision-makers, experts, civil society and interested public from all levels - local, regional, national and international.
It will be traditionally held in the week leading to the Mediterranean Coast Day, September 25th that is widely celebrated in the Mediterranean countries. September 25th was chosen as the Mediterranean Coast Day to honor Slovenia as the first country in the Mediterranean region, which ratified the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in 2009.
The rich program of the event includes both events open to the public and closed, invitation-only events. The detailed program is available following the link: Programme_TSO_2024
