    Innovation capacity and awareness are also key, with actions aimed at increasing the ability of individuals and organizations to adopt and apply innovative practices. This involves empowering innovation networks and stimulating innovation across different sectors. 

    Institutional cooperation and network-building play a crucial role, supporting long-term partnerships to improve administrative processes, share regional knowledge, and promote intercultural understanding. This also includes cooperation between universities, healthcare facilities, schools, sports organizations, and efforts in management and capacity building. 

    This topic focuses on strengthening the agricultural, forestry, and fisheries sectors while ensuring sustainable development and environmental protection.     This topic focuses on protecting the environment, promoting biodiversity, and addressing the challenges of climate change and resource management. It includes efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change, develop low-carbon technologies, and reduce GHG emissions. Biodiversity promotion and natural protection are key aspects. 

    It also covers improving soil and air quality by reducing pollution, managing contamination, preventing soil erosion, and enhancing air quality both outdoors and indoors.     This topic focuses on the sustainable management, protection, and valorisation of natural resources and areas, such as habitats, geo parks, and protected zones. It also includes preserving and enhancing cultural and natural heritage, landscapes, and protecting marine environments. 

    Circular economy initiatives play a key role, with actions aimed at innovative waste management, ecological treatment techniques, and advanced recycling systems. Projects may focus on improving recycling technologies, organic waste recovery, and establishing repair and re-use networks.     This topic focuses on fostering community integration and strengthening a common identity by promoting social cohesion, positive relations, and the development of shared spaces and services. It supports initiatives that enhance intercultural understanding and cooperation between different societal groups. 

    Demographic change and migration address key societal challenges, such as an aging population, active aging, and silver economy strategies. It also includes adapting public services and infrastructure to demographic shifts, tackling social and spatial segregation, and addressing brain drain. Migration-related actions cover policy development, strategic planning, and the integration of migrants to create inclusive and resilient communities. 

    All projects where ICT has a significant role, including tailor-made ICT solutions in different fields, as well as digital innovation hubs, open data, Internet of Things; ICT access and connecting (remote) areas with digital infrastructure and services; services and applications for citizens (e-health, e-government, e-learning, e-inclusion, etc.); services and applications for companies (e-commerce, networking, digital transformation, etc.).

    This is about the mitigation and management of risks and disasters, and the anticipation and response capacity towards the actors regarding specific risks and management of natural disasters, for example, prevention of flood and drought hazards, forest fire, strong weather conditions, etc.. It is also about risk assessment and safety.

    This topic focuses on enhancing education, training, and opportunities for children, youth, and adults. It covers the expansion of educational access, reduction of barriers to education, and improvement of higher education and lifelong learning. It also includes vocational education, common learning programs, and initiatives supporting labour mobility and educational networks. Additionally, it addresses the promotion of media literacy, digital learning tools, and the development of innovative educational approaches to strengthen knowledge, skills, and societal participation. 

    This topic emphasizes the role of culture and media in education and social development. It supports initiatives that foster creativity, cultural awareness, and artistic expression among children and youth. Activities include promoting cross-border cooperation in the audiovisual sector, enhancing digital content creation skills, and boosting the distribution of educational and cultural media products. Furthermore, it encourages the development of media literacy initiatives, helping young audiences critically engage with digital and media content. By connecting education, creativity, and media, this topic strengthens cultural identity and supports inclusive, knowledge-based societies. 

    This topic covers actions aimed at improving energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy sources. It includes energy management, energy-saving methods, and evaluating energy efficiency measures. Projects may focus on the energy rehabilitation and efficiency of buildings and public infrastructure, as well as promoting energy efficiency through cooperation among experienced firms, institutions, and local administrations. 

    In the field of renewable energy, this encompasses the development and expansion of wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectric, geothermal, and other sustainable energy sources. Activities include increasing renewable energy production, enhancing research capacities, and developing innovative technologies for energy storage and management.     This topic focuses on promoting equal rights and strengthening social inclusion, particularly for marginalized and vulnerable groups. Activities can address the creation of inclusive infrastructure, improving access and opportunities for people with disabilities, and fostering social cohesion through innovative care services.     This area focuses on improving health and social services, enhancing accessibility and efficiency for diverse groups such as the elderly, children, and people with disabilities. The EIT Jumpstarter 2025, a flagship pre-accelerator focused on unveiling talented innovators from emerging European countries, is now open. This year’s programme will seek innovative ideas in more than 27 countries and territories in Europe, with a special radar on the Western Balkans, the EU Outermost Regions and Mediterranean, offering additional prizes and opportunities.

Call objectives

This programme supports innovators, scientists, researchers and idea holders in transforming their innovative ideas into prosperous start-ups in a safe and supportive business environment. It does not require equity and is free of charge for individuals and teams coming from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe, where the pace of innovation is still progressing. During the last eight editions the EIT Jumpstarter has upskilled more than 1300 talents in the field of entrepreneurship and helped establish 124 start-ups. These companies have already raised approximately EUR 150M in the form of external investment.

In Rebuild Ukraine powered by EIT Health: expecting ideas from all thematic fields that participate in the EIT Jumpstarter program (Health, Food, RawMaterials, Manufacturing, Urban Mobility, InnoEnergy, New European Bauhaus). Applicants must be Ukrainian citizens who either habitually reside in Ukraine, or if they are habitually not residing in Ukraine, they are willing to commit to incorporating their future company in Ukraine. If there is an intention to register the company in another EIT RIS-eligible country, it is advisable to apply for the relevant category that aligns with the project. The category aims to provide special support to Ukrainian innovators in their start-up development and prevent brain drain from the country.

The competition is open to all individuals and teams of natural persons holding the citizenship of the following EIT RIS eligible countries and Moldova:

Natural persons: researchers, Masters, and PhD students or research groups from universities and research organisations; professionals, idea holders, or idea owners that have an idea/solution that is targeting the scope of one of our categories (further specified under 2.d below) and wants to start a company. Those teams who already have registered start-ups (legal entities) before January 1st 2025, connected to their business ideas submitted in the application phase, are not eligible to participate and will not be accepted to this particular competition. Start-ups who registered their company in the given calendar year (from January 1st 2025) are eligible for the programme.

  • Team of individuals (natural persons), where at least one out of two team members must be a citizen of these countries.
  • Legal entities are not eligible with the exception of start-ups registered after January 1st 2025.

The applications can be submitted either by a single idea holder or by a team represented by a contact person. There is no pre-set number of members in a team, but a maximum of two (2) co-founding members are eligible for financing. The participation of a team is welcome and appreciated in the evaluation, especially when the team is covering different competencies required in running a start-up. However, a maximum number of two (2) co-founding members per team is eligible to take part in the EIT Jumpstarter programme to ensure the high quality and comfortable conditions of the training activities. In justified cases, the EIT KIC contact point or trainer/mentor may allow the participation of more team members in specific activities. Up to two team members can receive grants (financial support) for travel and accommodation purposes.

The call for applications opens on February 2nd 2025 and closes on April 2nd 2025 at 23:59 CET. Please apply through the online application form. The applicants should emphasise: the innovative concept, what is unique in their technology, the development stage of their idea, the team description, explaining the need the innovation solves, and the current challenges of the team. Applications can be submitted once under the most appropriate thematic field (See Section 1.1).

The selected 190 teams will join the online bootcamps and the Pitch Days. Only 80 teams will advance to local trainings, build their business plan and register their start-up. In November, 48 teams will enter the final pitching competition with the chance to win cash prizes (EUR 150,000 in total) and get exposure to the largest innovators network in Europe – EIT.

All applications for the programme must be completed as follows:

  • Applicants must fill in all required information tabs in the application form.
  • Applicants must introduce a project team consisting of 1 to any number of participants.
  • Proposals must be in English. Proposals in other languages will not be accepted.
  • Incomplete submissions or submissions via any other means (e.g. email) will be rejected.
  • Proposals must be submitted before the deadline; all late applications will be rejected.
  • The idea must be within the scope of the main challenges.
  • Additional information, such as a weblink to the project, can be uploaded to support your application. These additional documents are not mandatory, and please be aware that if you do not explicitly refer to such documents in your application, the reviewers may not consider these attachments as the basis for their evaluation.

  • Participants of the former editions of the EIT Jumpstarter cannot be selected for the programme and receive any financial support at any stage of the competition.
  • The submitted project must be exclusively concentrated on civil applications, with no intention of military use or serving military purposes, in adherence to ethical considerations, to be eligible for participation. If a product/service/model involves dual-use items as defined by Regulation 2021/821 or other items requiring authorisation, participation, and support can still be considered, but we will add a specific note to make sure the Project complies with the relevant regulatory framework.
  • Multiple submissions are not accepted. Each applicant must use a unique email address for submission.
  • Individuals, co-founders, and project team members are not eligible to be part of more than one submitted project at the same time and/or submit more than one project at the same time.
